The Duffin Family is a bluegrass and gospel band from Montague, Texas. Dad (Chuck) and Mom (Faith) have been playing bluegrass music for several years in Texas and surrounding areas.
In June of 1999, while watching a jam session at a bluegrass festival, Jennifer, Nathan and Lindsey all decided they, too, wanted to play bluegrass music. The children decided for themselves which instrument would best suit them and took off within the first week playing Cripple Creek and Liza Jane over and over. In only three months, they put together several songs, and decided it was time to start playing in public as The Duffin Family.
They have performed at many festivals, and are booked for a number of up-coming festivals and events in Missouri, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Iowa, Illinois, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Texas, Silver Dollar City, in Branson, MO, and Ontario, Canada. They had the pleasure of performing at the SPBGMA Band Contest and Awards Show in Nashville in February of 2001, and were honored with two standing ovations. The Nashville ABC news affiliate was there to catch their performance and interviewed them for the ten o'clock news that evening.
They have two recordings to their credit. Their first self-titled recording features a mix of bluegrass and gospel tunes such as Foggy Mountain Breakdown, Rocky Top, Steel Rails, and At Calvary. It is available on cassette. Their second recording, Fire on the Mountain features a wide range of versatility of these young musicians. This latest project is a variety of musical styles from the Texas swing tune Milk Cow Blues, the syncopated banjo style on Clinch Mountain Backstep, to the Beatles classic I've Just Seen a Face. It is available on CD and cassette.
From Nathan's hard-driving banjo on songs such as Train 45, Shucking the Corn and Sledd Ride to Lindsey's strong vocal on Muleskinner Blues and Blue Moon of Kentucky, her versatile fiddle playing on songs like Cajun Fiddle, Jerusalem's Ridge, and Orange Blossom Special and with Jennifer's solid bass and melodious vocals on Steel Rails, Pass Me Not and I Pray My Way Out of Trouble, The Duffin Family show is always lively and entertaining.
They have made many friends and are enjoying performing and traveling together as a family.
